I purchased an excellent Canon A1  back in May. I recently purchased a nice Canon MA motor drive set. When I put it on the camera,it dosen\t work correctly unless I put pressure on the tip of the  film advance  lever. It then works as it should . I di

There are contacts to the motor drive, just below the film advance lever, these switch the power on/off. I would suggest that you try your camera with a winderA to see if that works it only has 2 contacts, and these use the switch below the winder.

Thanks for that tip. I\m looking for another body to test . But if I find a Winder A I\ll try that.
