A good set of tools may get that old camera snapping and clicking, but\n how does one know if it’s truly working CORRECTLY? <\/p>\n

Granted, getting the knobs and levers to move is the first step. However,\n the job isn’t over until a well exposed photo is taken of the fat\n lady singing!<\/p>\n

Basic functions that should be tested are:<\/p>\n

Shutter speed
\n Shutter curtain speed
\n Aperture opening
\n Meter accuracy
\n Flash sync
\n Focus<\/b><\/p>\n <\/blockquote>\n

The basic test equipment one needs to check these functions are:<\/p>\n

Test (jumper) leads<\/a>
\n Battery holder w\/battery<\/a>
\n Multimeter<\/a>
\n Adjustable light source<\/a>
\n Shutter speed tester<\/a>
\n Combination shutter speed\/curtain speed\n tester<\/a>
\n Aperture tester<\/a>
\n Flash sync tester<\/a>
\n EV tester<\/a>
\n Collimator (focus tester)<\/a><\/p>\n <\/blockquote>\n

Most of these test devices are described in Tomosy’s\n first two books<\/a> or in Romney’s "Revised\n Basic Training"<\/a>. What I’ve described here is my two-cents\n on the subject. Having any, or all, these books on your reference shelf\n is a good idea. Also factory service manuals<\/b> can be very informative.\n But don’t expect step-by-step instructions from a factory manual.\n Or any manual for that matter. Usually you can consider yourself lucky\n if even the factory manual has good exploded views and a list of specs.<\/p>\n <\/td>\n <\/tr>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n
